ABOUT ME

Eris Zhao is a Chinese cinematographer based in Los Angeles. She believes that good filmmaking can change our perception of the world and is passionate about telling intimate stories in unique and artistic ways.

Recently received her MFA from USC School of Cinematic Arts, Eris has worked as a cinematographer for numerous narrative films that covered a wide range of genres from thriller to comedy to political drama. Among them, Weilai (2022) was nominated for Best Comedy Series at the 42nd College Television Awards and has been an official selection at Bentonville Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, Hollyshorts, as well as a Finalist for KCET – Fine Cut, and CAA Moebius.

On top of fictional work, Eris also values the honesty and importance of documentaries. Her lens has explored homeless issues in Alaska, Ukrainian refugee stories on the Romanian border, the history of the Internet, and future carbon reduction technologies.

Besides holding the camera, Eris also co-directed a USC feature film The Phantom in 2021 and worked as a line producer for Mother in the Mist, a short film that went on to win the DGA Student Film Award, the Best Student Film Award at the American Pavillion at the Cannes Film Festival, and premiered at the 20th San Diego International Film Festival.
